China's ascent continues to pose significant strategic challenges and opportunities for the United States and its allies. Currently, Beijing seeks to unite most of the world's population through the Belt and Road Initiative, lead the high-tech industry, and build a world-class military. Although China’s growth remains strong and steady, rising economic uncertainty, long-term demographic issues, and increasing domestic political control are complicating the future path of China’s power and influence in the coming decades.
